WT Urban Café & Kitchen, Utrecht
Quality and comfort in a new, relaxed atmosphere.
In 2010 Utrecht became owner of the monumental building of the water tower. For the rezoning of this industrial heritage they searched for people with inspiring ideas, who would also be able to realize the ideas themselves. Eventually, the winning idea came from the architecture company Sluijmer en van Leeuwen: a centre for small businesses it had to be! Spread over four levels you can drink, dine, meet and moreover the water tower also allows for private dinners….you can even get married on top of the tower!
Wes Schreutelkamp (28) is the driving force behind WT - Urban Bar & Kitchen. After he and his team were given the opportunity to exploit this unique place they knew pretty quickly what kind of concept Utrecht needed. An affordable restaurant, with a high level of service and kitchen. Quality and comfort in a new, relaxed atmosphere.
"We strive to pamper our guests every day, and to surprise them with new flavours, natural wines and above all fair prices."
The renovation of the water tower took more than five years, but the result is amazing. The original details of the water tower can be found in their own way. The old water pipes combined with circular lights, green tiles and tight designer chairs give an industrial look and feel. The 9th floor is the authentic part of the tower, with tables in the original water tank and with windows so you have beautiful views over parts of Utrecht. In the middle of the 9th floor there is an open kitchen so guests can enjoy the talented chefs. And if that isn’t enough, you can also book a place in the new glass pavilion on the 10th floor with an amazing panoramic view. "The appearance, branding, philosophy and identity of Marie-Stella-Maris could not be missed in this restaurant," said Wes.
"We transformed this unique piece of industrial heritage into a business that we are proud of"
Wes his favourite from the menu is the stingray wing with bimi, spinach and white butter sauce. A dish with flavours that are ripe and also has a surprising little acid. The dish is fantastic in combination with Plein Sud, a Vin Nature wine from the Northern Rhône valley, made from Marsanne, Viognier and Rousanne. A wine with aromas of wild peach, almond and apricot. And for those who still prefer a beer with their food; WT Urban Bar & Kitchen offers 40 special beers!
