People Behind Marie: Janneke

In the column ‘People Behind Marie’ we introduce you to the Marie-Stella-Maris team. Every month, we put the spotlight on one of our ‘Marietjes’ who – in his / her own way – contributes to our social mission ‘clean water for everyone, everywhere’.

This month in the spotlight: Janneke. Energetic, inventive and a little chaotic: that’s our Art Director Janneke. Since December last year, Janneke is responsible for the concept development and guarding the brand identity.

We asked Janneke six questions to get to know her a little better.

Favourite meal?

"That must be risotto at all times. Preferably with lots of fresh mushrooms and a huge amount of rocket and Parmesan cheese. And a sabayon as dessert if possible. And a nice cold glass of Riesling. Heaven. As you may have already noticed already, I’m a real Burgundian.''

Favourite artist?

''Cy Twombly. He makes paintings, sculptures and photographs (such as' Say Goodbye, Catullus' from 1994 and 'Trees (No. 1 and No. 3) from 1986 - see below). I love his work because it shows a constant form of study. His paintings, for example, consist of scribbles and words, or he writes up fragments of thoughts you recognize later on. This, together with colour research and re-interpretation of form and structure, creates a very interesting and dynamic mix. I can look at it for hours and I still can discover something new every time. Last year there was an expanded exhibition about Twombly at Centre Pompidou in Paris. I went there three times. I like it when art does not necessarily feel 'finished', but continues to move, even though it’s basically hanging still - if you understand what I mean.''

Favourite hotspot?

’That’s the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam. A wonderful place with a special collection of plants and trees. The nice thing about the Hortus is that it constantly changes during the year. Every season has it’s own charm and beauty. New colours to discover every time. Even when it’s winter and everything starts to become dry and brown, that transience and the melancholic atmosphere is beautiful as well. I also use this place regularly for a photo shoot or to make nice close-ups.''

Place to visit that is now on top of your wishlist?

''In October, I’m going to Cape Town. I’m really looking forward to it. There are still a lot of places on my list, but if I have to choose then Japan and Canada are at the top.''

Favourite way to relax?

''When cycling. After and/or before work I jump on my racing bike. I ride competitions and make a lot of training hours. Because of this, I’m outside a lot, which is lovely and gives me a lot of energy. Next to that, I need cycling to clear my head or to come up with new ideas.''

Favourite Marie-Stella-Maris product?

"That’s without doubt the jojoba oil. What a discovery! I use it for everything nowadays. I put it in the tips of my hair, occasionally on my face before I go to sleep, when I have a sunburnt skin and on new scars (which I recently learned from our Product Manager). I’m not so fond of too many different care products so I get very excited from a multifunctional product haha.''
