Mr. Jordaan Hotel
His place, your home?
Located at the Bloemgracht in the 17th century Amsterdam district called the Jordaan you will find the hidden home Mr. Jordaan Hotel: formerly the home of Mr. Jordaan, nowadays the for curious travellers.
The hotel finds its history in the 1960s when, one day, Mr. Jordaan spontaneously decided to rent out his place to sleep. It turned out to be so popular that the place to sleep - which so far consisted of a sofa - extended to a full room, which increased to two rooms, to which the entire floor was rented and the other floors of the house followed. This expansion even ensured that the house next to that of Mr. Jordaan was also made available for the rental of places to sleep. So you could say that Mr. Jordaan was the forerunner of couch surfing or AirBnB.

The Amsterdam district called the Jordaan was founded in the 17th century by an economic growth that attracted tourists from all over the world to Europe. The Jordaan was built on the west side of the Prinsengracht - a neighbourhood where many craftsmen and artists went to live. The narrow streets make you think you are far away from the busy centre of Amsterdam. However, there are many shops, restaurants and bars to be found in the Jordaan.

Mr. Jordaan Hotel has four unique rooms: 'Happy Single', 'Cozy Double', 'Sleeping Apart Together' and 'Three is a Crowd'. The hotel is decorated in a quirky, recognizable way. The interior connects elements from the late '60s with the urban character of the hotel. You may also come across the symbolic key regularly throughout the hotel, which refers to the hospitality of Mr. Jordaan and the warm homey feeling of the hotel. The breakfast has something for everyone: from continental to local, including various cheeses, smoked fish, superfoods and typical Dutch delicacies such as ‘ontbijtkoek’ and peanut butter. Most products have been obtained locally from local stores.
